Reggea greats

When I was about 9 years old I heard this song called quite village by Martin Denny! I love it.It made me think of summer on the beach looking for shells and catching waves on my little blue rubber raft.
As years went by I forgot about the name of that song but not the sound!
many years later in the late 1970s I hears a song called no woman no cry by bob Marley. I couldn't understand what he was singing about but I liked the music. a few years later in youth group my friend Krissy handed me her walkman and told me to listen to this tape my Bob Marley and the wailers.
Such fun and positive vibes were being song.At the time Rap and grunge were starting to take over the airwaves.
Soon after my cousin Donna came over for a weekend and lent me her Legend CD and told me to tape it. I did!
I was hooked.I practically wore out that tape. There's got to be more music like this out there I thought.around that time I found out the library had tapes and CDs!
I found out about UB40,Ziggy Marley and others through the library.
compilations from Putumayo music were a great gateway into Reggae music! I also got into ska and afrobeat.
The thing about African music is its fun, positive and upbeat! They aren't talking about disrespecting your mother or r-ping a girl! I also got into celtic and other world music through Putumayo music
African music is my Favorite though. As far as world music goes anyway. Oh and my Martin Denny guy? Yeah I have a CD or two of his too!

Here's a CD recommended by fellow youtube content creator Norman Maslov who has a huge record and CD collection and a lot of music knowledge too. He has a history of recorking in record stores and used to work for a distributor too.
OK I need some sleep but will talk about my youtube influencer in a future blog!

some current CD finds in the wild

On that some Trip I found this! a 2 CD set! I had this on Vinyl back on the day and traded it in during my purge beforw moving 20 5 years ago! When I found it on CD at my music store I was so happy! ELO is one of those band you either love or hate. I love them. Jeff Lynne is a talented instrumentalist and a great producer!

Support your local record store and antique mall

A few years ago a music store by me called Clarizio music started selling physical media. Being a CD collector this but a smile on my face. The CDs are used but that fine by me.

sometimes you find a cds you've haven't seen in years!

once in a while Id find a couple of CDs and it will inspire yes a new mix!

I don't always shop for myself though. Once in a while I'll pick up a few 45s or tapes for someone else! I know a few folks who still enjoy 45s and Ill pick up about 8 and mail them to that person

being I feel my CD collection is pretty complete I've stopped shopping for myself. I also have a collection that was gifted to me that has a lots of CDs I already have so I need to trade them in or give them to friends! purging? yes I do need to purge.

The urge to pick up more for me is strong at times but I keep telling myself I have enough.

Between the antique store and clarizios my CD collection has grown. Amazon has helped to!

I hear People say there's not much in antique stores. Ohh you haven't been to Point pavilion have you? They have a tone of CDs and records.

Don't overlook your antique store! Some booths have decent prices. Sometimes I'll go in my antique store to look around and get fun content for you youtube channel and 8 out of 10 time I find a CD I want. the urge to get a cds is VERY powerful there!

If your record store is to crowded on Records store day go to you antique mall. it doesn't need to be new to be cool!

The summer 2025 mixtape

Here's a tape I made this summer. I think I sent this one to Kaitlin in the Netherlands! The mixtape exchange on Instagram is a site you should check out if this blog inspires you to do so!

Here is a book By Jehnie Burns about the history of the mixtape. I didn't know that the underground hip hop scene started as early as the mid 1970s. This book will inspire and educate!

making mixtapes again

for a while now I've been following a page on instagram called the mixtape exchange. There are still folks out there making mixtapes. Yes cassettes!

This past spring I bought a boombox with a CD and Cassette deck in it. I had one but one of our cleaning ladies borrowed it and blew the speakers out.

The new one works fine and I haven't lost my touch. Well I was a little rusty at first but not for long! Being I make CDs I promised myself the tape would be for other people.

I made a few new tape making friends over the summer. In fact I just made a tape for Ian in California!

Heres one of the first mix tapes i made in 20 years! I underline  or highlight the name of the band or artist ! I also write in the date the tape was created
