The summer 2025 mixtape

Here's a tape I made this summer. I think I sent this one to Kaitlin in the Netherlands! The mixtape exchange on Instagram is a site you should check out if this blog inspires you to do so!

Here is a book By Jehnie Burns about the history of the mixtape. I didn't know that the underground hip hop scene started as early as the mid 1970s. This book will inspire and educate!

posting mixes again soon

For a while I've been following a group on Instagram called the mixtape exchange! Currently they have several hundred members!

In 2003 My stereo that had a dual tape deck broke. In late fall of 2003 I got a computer and learned how to make CD mixes. My old stereo sits in the cabinet and the only thing that works on it is the radio.

This spring after being so inspired by the mixtape Exchange I went on amazon and bought a boom box with a cd player and tape deck.

I was a little rusty but regained my mix taping skills! I promised myself NOT to make tapes for myself. Just CD mixes.

This summer I made a few new friends in the group. The admix took the summer off from assigning mix tape but put a post up inviting folks to seek out folks who wanted to summer mix swap. I sent a few out ,including one to a woman in the Netherlands!

I'm also in a CD mix group based out of the UK!

I believe folks are falling in love with physical media again. The power to listen to what you like instead of AI or spotify choose for you is gaining traction.

Getting a 6x9 envelope in the mail is becoming a thing again.

My friend Bob in NY recently said "I just up and down with excitement when I see a package from you in the mail Trish cause I know I'm gonna dig it.

Wow did that warm my heart!

So I'll be posting mixtapes and cd mixes here again soon!

an old mixtape from 1994

Last night I was lookin for an Christmas mixtape I made in the 90s. My friend Larry aka uncle Orca write in his latest letter how hard it is each year to come up with a new an exciting Christmas playlist.
I can relate I've been making Christmas mixes since 04 and its getting harder to find new and exciting Christmas songs without the having a song or two that has not been a previous mixes.
This year I know there are a few returning songs but they are good enough to be repeated.
OK so but search for a Christmas mixtape failed I did find a mix I made in 1994 full of cool songs that will go in my car tomorrow.

Many times I felt I made the perfect mixtape and then I could not for the life of me produce an equally as cool name for it. This is an example ah but its the music that matter right?!
I've had folks make me mixes with the perfect arty cover, great title and the quality of the music well... Could have been better.
I'm sure I've put out some crappy mixtape in my time but there was this one mixmaker back in the day who bragged his mixes were the best. I never claimed to be the best and never will. I'll leave that to my listeners!

Rocktober is here!

I didn't think I would be making another mix till November but inspiration got the best of me and here is my new mix.
 and here it is!

Yes theres some classic rock, Country and Reggae all mixed in.. I listened to it last night and liked how it came out. Originally Babes in the wood was going to be the last song but decided the Hushabye mountain should be the last track, ending the mix on a mellow mood!

January Jams 2015

At Long last its finally here!
A new mix! Harder then deciding  on the order of the playlist was thinking up a title for it.
Btween gifts in the mail and CDs from the library a mix is born. I alsoused a few tracks that have been unheard for a spell!

going on 8 Years in the mix CD trade

I just rejoined the IMP mix exchange group. I missed getting assignments each month. for a while I put off renewing my membership and even thought about taking a long break.
Recently I realized how much a missed coming home and seeing my new assignment in my email. Usually the end of the first week and middle of the second week of the month is when they come.
I discovered IMP in 2007 when I typed CD mix in the search bar. I was thrilled to know others were as obsessed with making CD mixes as I was.
It was the advent of the MP3 and iPods era. People were telling me that the CD mix is a thing of the past and soon DJs will be replaced my iPods and laptops!
I didn't listen to it. Computers can crash and Ipods can be lost broken and stolen. then what?
With the recent resurgence in interest in vinyl records I hope more folks regain an appreciation of the physical format,CD ,albums and tapes.
I still think making mix tapes/CDs is cool and is a fun creative outlet of turning others on to great music. Making the cover art is fun too where you put one of your own pictures on it or something you cut out of an old magazine, junk mail, etc.
seeing others reaction when to give them a mix you make is a thrill too. Getting a 6X9 envelope with your name on it  is cool too!
curious? So how do I sign up you wonder

I have made a few friend who I still keep in touch with too!

Rockin mixes

Yes my fellow mix makers the mixtape culture still lives! Here are a few CD mixes from my friends Larry aka Orcaman and Also Kathy Bone.
I connected with them when were were all on the art of the mix site and then a hand full of us left there and joined Zenrunning order.
that whole story is on an ealier blog.
I handful of us still keep in touch at the facebook page.
There are still folks who enjoy getting and sending mixes in the mail despite the rise in postage!
are you one of them?

speaking of music, I went to the car cruise in downtown Point Pleasant beach and chatted and hung out with Area musician Ed Austin and DJ Tommy Lynch who have been entertaining the crowd for years!

OK now here are some of the cars

its always a fun afternoon!

An Izzy Sandwich

for a while I had this idea for a mix that started and ended with the same artist.
The artistist I chose was inspired my friend and Coworker Beth and I were discussing the Hawaiian musician we just refer to as Izzy because his last name is a tongue twister.
I know I wanted to feature world music in the mix but have old faves as well.
so here it is folks
the Izzy Sandwich!
