Christmas in Bay Head , A DJ Gig and Chatter

The Christmas Season had Started!
I loaded up my 5 CD changer in the den with Christmas music except for one which I may put a jazz mix in.
This Friday is Christmas in Bay Head when the stores stay open till 9pm and Santa arrives at the Firehouse on top of the old firetruck and Our School Chorus sings.Im not sure about the band playing.
The shops serve neat little cookies and punch or coffee. When its below 40 degrees I usually skip it.I don't like walking around for hours freezing my butt off!
Saturday is my gig at Rockin Joes for our youth group 26th year reunion.Gosh I hope no one gets a bright idea to have us give a testimony.I'll say I have Junior alzheimers and can only remember how to spin CDs.lol! No better yet Ill tell them the owner doesnt have flood insurance that covers extreme emotional breakdowns...no better yet I signed a contract saying I was not going to cry when I Deejayed.
Sunday Im relaxing and starting the task of writing Christmas Cards. If its real nice Ill take a bikeride first and maybe get a little shopping done.
I just ordered a dozen CDs at the library.Theres a song I've been hoping to get on CD for a long time and wouldnt you know the library has it!its called 16 tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford.In the mid 1990s when I still had a turntable I bought a copy on 45s at a yard sale but it was scratchy and then one at a nostalgia shop and that one skipped. That song has been on my wish list for a LONG time.
I have a wish list in one of my notebooks I used to write down tide info in during my summers at the beach.Every now and then I come across it.
Its called 45 wish list. Its songs I had on 45s I wish I had on CD.
My next mix is going to be Called Library Hits 2010!Our library had great music and it will consists of music I got through out wonderful Ocean County Library! It might be a 2 CD set!

Black Friday:an Observation

Black Friday.its either your friend or your worst nightmare. When I headed out just to do a few things I took a mental note to be extra careful.Cross only at crosswalks and walk your bike across the highway.
People are anxious to get to their next stop.my travels were going well.I got printer ink and a 50 pack of CDrs.People were hitting the horns more than usual in route home.not at me but at others.
I arrived home unharmed and unshaken.I was hoping to get out earlier but it was raining in the morning and black Friday is one of the days I refuse to take the car out.
I did take a quick trip to downtown Point beach though before heading home. The good thing about Black Friday is it brings folks together for a common goal.Shopping!
I saw one woman with a teenage girl I'm guessing was here daughter tell a man were going over here.and the man went his way.Guys dont like going into dress shops or Jewelry shore with their wives no more than woman like to go in sports shops with their husbands, right?
unless two folks want to go to the same place, its a chore. My mother never understood why I didn't enjoy shopping with her.She could spend all day in the mall on a beautiful day shopping and browsing.
When I shop I like to get what I want ,pay for it and go!Then again there my music stores where yes I do browse.I think one time mom did come into Ocean County music a few times and got a taste of her own medicine. Not that that was my intention it just happened. and one day I think I said to her "aha! see?"Oh but we could go out to Frankies together and talk for hours and have a ball.We loved her Ruben Sandwiches but never finished them and brought the leftovers home and there I was fat and happy after chomping down a burger and fries.
I don't think my dad was fond of driving on Black Friday either. He'd say people drive like a--holes.Mom would just roll here eyes "Oh Tom!"
Mom was a calm chick in traffic and Dad called folks driving recklessly every word in the book.We kids would be in the back seat not saying a word.
so there it is.My take on Black Friday.

a polish rag and a cryin jag

This time of year does bring missing my parents to its highs emotionally.Tonight I was finishing the task of polishing silver when the wave of emotion hit.I was remembering how dad and I would polish the silver together and do our imatation of people in the deep south."Well well looky at dat dare shine'He'd say and Id reply "ooowee dayam dat is a nice shine dare boy!"Mom of course would be saying we were a couple of silly Billies but Im sure she too was laughing.
suddenly the crying jag hit.I stopped for a few minutes and recomposed myself and went back at it.
Both Mom and Dad love thanksgiving and christmas.Every year Dad bought a bottle of St brendans and it would last about about a
few days between the two of us.we'd sit in the Den and watch TV or listen to Christmas music.
I still buy a bottle and pretend he's still around to keep upbeat. In a way I know he is!

Oh the winds of November

8am.My alarm woke me up and for awhile I stayed in bed just listening to the news and music. The was going to be up in the 60s today so I hit the snooze button hearing the wind.I finally got up at 10 because I knew I was meeting Knight and KC at Rockin Joes coffee house for lunch and I dint want to oversleep.
I got up ,got dressed and booted up the computer and checked email, library holds status and then facebook account.
About 1:30 I shut the computer down and headed out.It seemed windy but not too windy for a bike ride.No one was home on the other side so I brought in the mail and let Bayou out.I noticed her biscuit jar was filled so I wrote a note on apost it note
Dear Mommy and Daddy
Thank you for refilling my biscuit jar
I'm so glad to have such great humans
Love
Bayou

I gave here a some rubs on the back of here head and she licked me and I kissed her on the head and headed out.
I pedaled hard because there was a strong North wind.Things were easier going into Bay Head.I arrived at Rockin' Joe's Shortly after they arrived.I had a toast Bagel and a large cup of coffee.
After words I went to Atomic Cd's.It used to be just music so its more like a nostalgia shop. The CD selection is smaller and the Vinyl selection is bigger.
I bought a Fiona Apple CD and the 30 Greatest hit of Aretha Franklin. Its a 2 CD set but it was only $10.00.thats worth it!I got both Cd's for $12.00!My little Brain told me."Trish just say thank you and shut up!"Guess I got the frequent buyer price.Something I'm sure the other customer might frown on.
Plus I gave Eric(the owner a Christmas mix!
Now that It gets darker earlier I must remember to head out earlier when going out on my rides on the weekends.
The ride home was nice. The wind had subsided.

thanksgiving

The sky is grey and the leaves are falling off the trees.Usually I try to take pictures of the trees in their fall glory before this happens but I don't know why I didn't this year.
This year Im thankful for my faith, family and friends.natch!Im also Thankful that I had a few more DJ gigs then last year and that im still working.Last year around this time I was on myspace and had a hotmail account but they got phished right before Christmas or was it nearer to thanksgiving?
anyway Im glad I found blogger and got reconnected to a dozen folks through facebook.most understood my situation and didn't hold it against me.
Last year I was having car trouble and my old bike broke.Murphy's law did a number on me!I had s--t for luck last year but hope things are better this year.
so far things are better this year then last year at this time.Except my friend Joan is in the hospital.
I made a few more Friends through my mix tape sites and have a few more folks to swap mixes with this year.My own mix exchange group is holding steady at 20 members.
The youth group I was in is having a reunion and I have the honor of spinning the tunes.yay!
Nancy and Dan Adopted 3 nice kids and they are all healthy and happy.
This past summer things went well at the beach and there weren't as many lost child calls or crazy incidents like fights etc on the beach. It was a nice summer.
I have much to be thankful for.
Happy thanksgiving to all readers
Peace and love
Trish

Remembering the Sony Walkman

Tonight I read that Sony has stopped production of the walkman. In the 1980s I bought myself a Sony Walkman and listened to the mixtapes I made to motivate myself to walk to lose some weight. My first one was black and it was stolen not long after I got it.
My second one was yellow. That one lasted much longer.I love it but it died a tragic death in the late 80s when I tripped over a raised slab of cement on the sidewalk.I tried to break my fall but failed. The walkman went crashing to the ground and the thing broke in two.I also got a scraped up elbow, ripped jeans and a bruised knee and my walking days were on hiatus for weeks but the walkman did provide some good sound that helped motivate me to walk and become a better mix maker.
Im sure many mixmakers and DJs owe the walkman many thanks for their music education and enjoyment!
Thank you Walkman.I will always remember you!

The Ultimate high..without drugs or alcohol

Althuogh I didnt go to The college of NJ I somehow get their monthly newsletter.I want to write them stating I was only graduating high school at the year they say i was graduating college!
The last newletter had an article about the college radio station. The student DJs expressed feeling like I had 10 years ago!
When I first really started DJing I felt a buzz, but was NOT on drugs.and when I got positive feedback I felt high. But I was clean and sober!Thats when I truly knew I had what it took to be a DJ!When music is in your heart and soul and your listening audience confirms it..oh man,it gets you high.you dont need drugs or alcohol, just the approval of your fans!
Many musicians and DJs want to maintain that high longer.thats where the trouble comes in!
In the late 1960s i got a little am/fm transistor radio that brought me lots of joy.Today I hope to bring that joy to others through my DJing!

Does College radio Rock?

Years agoI didnt think a college radio would be cool..Then I got turned onto whtg 90.5.Wow was my mind changed. In recent years I discovered2 more!
90.3 and wtsr
College radio doesnt play formatted music like commercial radio and is supported by their listening audience.
My Fave is whtg 90.5 the night! So Eclectic and cool! The only commercial radio I listen to know is the oldies stations
Yeah I know As I DJ I should expose myself to modern radio and that top 40 stuff but Its sick what some stations call hits!
I did watch Glee one night and well some of the singing was no no I cant say I liked it can I?Dare I?
Maybe Im just too set in my ways musically.OK who else is discusted with the music industry today?

Am I the problem or the solution?

The other day I gave one of my friends a Christmas CD.Kidding he told me I was the problem with the early start of Christmas music.Oh my just think. It will inspire you to get started early so you not freaking out a week before Christmas because you Haven't started yet.I replied.
Each year I make my Family and friends Christmas mixes. This Yeah I started making them in the middle of October and Get finished right around Thanksgiving.I usually crank out around 100 but this yeah I'm doing about 120 because I made a few new friends in my mix club and it seems some folks want an extra copy or two to give as presents.
so am I the problem or the solution?
OK onward to other stuff.Last week we got a new washer and dryer.Compared to other machines they look intimidating because of the high tech looking buttons.I refer to them as the whirlpool 2000.lol!I asked Nancy if I'm going to need to go to a workshop to learn how to use them and she said yes!She showed me how to work them and I did a load of laundry tonight. Now I'm truly a 21st century girl!

a Day in my life

Today waking up was not so east but at 10:00 I decided to get up,take a shower and start my day.
My first stop was the post office where I mailed out 9 Packages containing Christmas mixes and a few had my newest mix called "isn't that special" in them.My next stop was Muellers Bakery were I had a cup of coffee and a wonderful Blueberry Muffin.
After that I headed to The Bay Head Library where I picked up 2 DVDs I ordered
1 is Pirate Radio and the other is Endless Summer.
Afterwards I stopped at Butlers Pharmacy to get some MORE envelopes to mail out mixes in and my final stop was to get a small bottle of wine so across the street to Gerards I went.
Later the day or I should say early that Evening Sheila and I were picked up and Jimmy Kaplow and we went to my cousin Mollys 50th Birthday Party!
My Cousin Raphaels ipod was the entertainment. Its a small house. It was great to see many people I havent seen in a Long time and also met some new additions to the family.
Last nightI wanted to start a mix but had trouble deciding on a title but decided on Bubbling Hot Mix 2.
Tomorrow night I plan to watch the DVDs and Ill do a review on both sometime during the week.
stay tuned and remain cool!

yes There is still good music out there!

Last night I listened to to Now thats what i call music 33.In the 80s hip hop was fun and having fun with rhymin' but these days its about getting someone in bed.
Its all about sex and violance.Theres more to life my friends much more!
No ones rhymin' about sunsets
No Ones rhymin about about how much the government gets
No one tellin' about the sins in politics
or bout the illness the needle pricks

OK OK here are mty picks for now 33!Train,Daughtry,Kris Allen and Ashlyne Huff.I also picked up the soundtrack to Urban Cowboy.I had this album on Record and hoping for years Id find it on CD and I have via the Ocean County Library.
After the invasion on hip hop in the late 1980s I decided to give country music a try.Urban Cowboy was the soundtrack that got me interested in country music.
From There I started listening to Hand Williams,Patsy Cline and yes Johnny Cash just to name a few!I've gained an appreciation for country music and it will be evident in my next mix y'all!
