DJ Trish in the beginning

This is a photo of the first hig back in the late 90s or early 2000. I saw a sign up sheet for our annual school fair.I asked my Friend Frank who DJed our school dances hey lets DJ Davy Jones day. how about it.. Better yet He replied You DJ it!
Me going solo? Sure you know what to say and you know what to play. He replied
Well the day came. I was excited and nervous at the same time.
Franks wife and mom were there and you said Take good care of Franks stuff with a smile.
By the end of the day I felt like a rock star. I got the bug. The DJ bug!
Frank retired from DJing in 2015.  I started saving up for my own gear.
In 2009 DJ Trish returned with my own gear. A Numark mix 2 deck and a pair of Tapko thumps still rock parties and events today!
I still remind Frank that he taught me everything I know about DJing. I am forever grateful for him lighting the spark that inspired my desire to became a DJ! He is a great mentor!

African Beat

As many of you already know I enjoy world music. This is my latest addition to my world music collection.
most of the songs are in other languages but the beats and rhythms are so infectious and get you dancing around it doesnt really matter that you can't understand what they are singing about.
2 thumbs up from me
Thank you Putumayo!

DJing

A friend on facebook was talking about being a DJ at a friends event. He was saying how he had DJed  many times before and knows what to play so leave him alone.
Wrong attitude!
As a DJ you are there to please your listening audience. If I'm doing a set of Reggae tunes and someone request a Beatles song and I have it, well I'm playing it! It may not fit in with what I'm playing at the time but its a request.
You also have to be a people person. Connecting with your listening audience is important.
Be friendly
Be outgoing
when someone saving your doing a good job thank them and give them your business card!
many of todays DJs run from a laptop.
I still go with CDs.
Why?
this way folks can go through and pick out what they like and say can you play track 4? usually If I have a few other requests Ill tell them
I have a few other songs to play then I play this after..and give them a high five or a fist bump. Most times they will take your word and be on their way. a few folks hang around though. If I don't know the person if sometimes makes me a little nervous. don't give that person nasty looks though. Just smile and carry on!
Keep food and drink away from your gear. spills can be costly.
and DONT LET KIDS AND DRUNKS ON THE MIC! I  told a kid at a fair I had reggae myelitis and later his mom laughed cause she knew it was a song and they kids love to tell and scream on the mic!
Fundraisers
I tell folks that I'll volunteer my time to fundraisers. Community service is good publicity and makes me feel like I'm giving back to the town in a way!
OK well that all for now
 Have a beautiful day!

Rocktober is here!

I didn't think I would be making another mix till November but inspiration got the best of me and here is my new mix.
 and here it is!

Yes theres some classic rock, Country and Reggae all mixed in.. I listened to it last night and liked how it came out. Originally Babes in the wood was going to be the last song but decided the Hushabye mountain should be the last track, ending the mix on a mellow mood!

A great Album

It was the around 1978. I was in high school. Like many kids I had struggles learning certain things. When I got home from a tough day I would throw on this album. The Opening Drum riff of Jungle Love. Almost immediately cured all bad vibes I was feeling. I'd be doing my air drums and air guitar and I was launched into another world.  By the time My Own Space came on all the blue funk was gone. I made it. I got through the day and Book of Dreams was an Albums I could listen to if I had a tough day or if I totally aced a test.
Book of Dreams is a great Album and stands the test of Time.
