buffett and the bay

Last night I stayed up way later then I planned and slept way later then I planned. When I did wake up,I got in the shower and checked my email.it was past 1pm buy the time I got on my bike so I stopped for a slice of pizza and a coke at Vasuvios, then had cheesecake and coffee at Cafe De Point.
On the way home I picked up some Miller lite.
Ed and Laurie were here so we chatted and had a great dinner with Nancy,Dan and the kids.
After dinner I had a beer aned was looking at the great view while listening to Jimmy Buffetts margaritaville on sirius satelite radio.the conbination of a great view, cool music and a cold beer calmed all and any worries I had.All winter I had been looking forward to this and here it is!
I have a littlw wine left over.Ill pop a new mix in the 5 CD changer and listen to it while having a glass of wine!

this weekend

The pre Memorial day traffic seems to be already starting.Folks are buzzing around like ticked off bumble bees!Be care folks!
I plan to stay local.A bikeride down East Ave,yard sales and chilling in the backyard enjoying music and a cold drink of choice are in my plans!Perhaps even a Trip to Dorcus's for pancakes! If its too crowded I'll get a coffee and bagel with cream cheese to go and sit on a bench by Twilight Lake and enjoy a scenic view while I eat.
Yesterday I went to see Eric of The Beach House classic boardshop fame.I surfboard a customer had been waiting for had come in.He was very hapy about it bacause this customer had been waiting a while.
I created another mix last night and plan to post it here tonight!
Now its time for a glass of wine ans pistachio nuts!

that wasn't bad!

Yesterday I went to the dentist for my annual check up.It was a little chilly but took my bike.I took Beaverdam road to the 88 Bridge.after I got over the bridge I heard this sound like someone was tapping on a tin can, then I saw one of the gates on the other side go down.It was the "Bridge is about to go up bell"compared to the Loveland town bridge bell it was not loud.
NO Cavities!Im always glad to find that out!He doesnt tell me "No cavities" he just says "everything looks good"
When I get out the door I raise both hands in the air and thank Jesus!
I didnt have much to eat so being Dunkin Donuts is a block away I went and had a small cofee and a Bagel with Cream Cheese! It was a good Day!

fleet foxes music review

about 4 years ago I heard a awesome melodic song on a fllow bloggers music stream on myspace it was called blue Ridge Mountain.A week or so ago I typed blue ridge mountain in our library search and up came Fleet Foxes.I found it!
Fleet Foxes have an awesome harmonic Sound.Theres a taste of Crosby ,Stills and Nash influence without Political overtones.
2 Thumbs up for Fleet Foxes!

never a dull moment

Today I woke up at 9:30.The sun was shining.Game plan is on!I got in the shower and afterwards checked the email. Then I mailed 2 mixes to 2 folks in the UK.Costly as that was I know the folks getting the mixes will appreciate them.
Some wish I could just download their mixes but 2 years ago I got a BAD Virus doing a download of someones mix!Since then I prefer swapping mixes by mail.Once bitten twice shy!Besides getting mixes in the mail is cooler and more fun!
OK so after the trip to the post office I went to Rockin Joes to meet up with Gran Marie,KC and Knight.I had a delicous Cheeseburger and a soda.
From there I went to the jazz and blues fest and hung out for an hour listening to a great Band Play. There was also someone in a scooby Doo custume dancing around.Later someone dressed as Dora The explorer come around and soon after that a dude on stilts dressed in a Jesters costume.I was lucky enough to have a front row seat for all this.
An Hour was enough for me though so on the way home I stopped in at Thoughtful Treasure antiques and gifts and saw Eloise. From there I made a quick stop to see Eric at Atomic CDs and from there I came home.I was two blocks from the house when it started to rain.Upon arriving home I found my ice tray from the freezer on my kitchen counter.I told Nancy yesterday the fridge didnt seem to be working and she told be Dan Would check it out.The freezer isnt working but the fridge is.
I think the thunder storm we had the other night killed it somehow.

high notes

This week ends on a high note. Its official.Im rehired at the school next year.Of course I had no doubt I would be but when I get it on paper I always feel assured.
Tomorrow our little trio is meeting up at Rockin' Joes and I may go down and see some live Jazz at Jazzfest in downtown Point Pleasant Beach.Theres nothing like good live jazz!It may inspire a jazz mix!
I was going to go to the school concert this past Tuesday but I think I had a little stomach bug.I almost got sick upon arriving home from work that day when I opened my car door and got a wiff of the mulch my neighbors just put down in their backyard.
The rest of the day was spent in bed.I didnt even eat dinner that night.Wednesday I finished up at playlist I had been working on.Playlist to be posted soon.

concert film review Electric blue

Last week I watched a DVD of a miles davis concert. It was made during the 1970s.He was into the rock Jazz fusion for awhile.TIt didnt last long.I didnt like his jazz fusion stuff.
For me Miles davis's straight up jazz is the best. The concert was kind of like what you hear when bands are tuning up.They were all playing but not together. One person said the jazz fusion thing was partially out of his drug addiction at the time.
Many thanks to Mr Mirage for the inspiration to post another film review!
Tonight Im going to watch a DVD called the History of Rock N Roll!

holy instrumoly

Tonight it occured to me thats its been a while since I got a email from eric records announcing their latest releases. They have a 3 cd set of 60s instrumentals.
Eric records issues compilations of hard to finds hits of the 60s and 70s.
check out www.ericrecords.com for more info!
In other music news I went to a yard sale in Bay head and got 2 CDs for $00.50.Thats right fifty cents. One was a compilation of mellow stuff and the other was Andrea Brocelli.I remember hearing Con te Partiro on the Sopranos and liking it.Someone said its opera and some say its classcal. If it is Opera its the only song opera or close to opera I get.
I also went to Atomic CDs and Got a Simon and Garfunkle CD.I also got some CDrs today too.I spent more on music today then on lunch.
I went to Bordens and got a 100 pack of CDrs and a 40 pack of jewel cases at Ocean County music.Im set for a few months.Lol!
OK Creative brain cells..start your engines!another eclectic mix is comin'

huh heck I should have paid more attention

Recently a fellow mixmaker put a Bela Fleck tune on a mix.Once in a while I wonder where I first heard certain artists. In this case I first heard Bela Fleck on a compilation called huh music.Huh music was a popular in the 1990s for new music CDs and reissues in compilation. Each month you got a CD and a Magezine telling you about each artist.Another artist I discovered was gogol Bordello with Start wearing Purple.
Id put the songs I liked on a mixtape and give the CD to a friend.I think I kept one or two and traded them in for cash or credit at a local music store after moving.
Being Records are on the comback and many folks buy music online not many music stores buy used CDs anymore.
I think there was another company that did the same thing as huh music.who was it?Anyone know?

A Beautiful Monday

The sounds of spring.
Birds singing Children playing and the call of seagulls. The sky was a pefect blue,Our garden in in good shape thank to Nancy and the lawn and porch is ready for outdoor enjoyment Thanks to both Nancy and Dan!
Today I went for a very enjoyable bikeride after work.I had a few things to get.Claritan D topped my list.I love this time of the year but the only hard part is the allergies.
I worked on the newsletter last night, copied it today at our local library and will mail it out tomorrow after work.
I also mailed out a few mixes and will start emailing mix club members to tell them who their lucky mix partner is.
This time of the year I also start to see yard sales.I have a little can of change Im saving for such an occasion.Last year I made out pretty well. Some years I do well with yard sales and other years I don't.
Last years was mostly a success because of Knight and KC.I dont know if I'll have a lucky streak 2 years in a row but only time will tell.
Memorial Day weekend seems to be the popular weekend for yard sales and garage sales!

new updates and idle chatter

Thursday I went into work and was a tad early so I went into the boiler room for a cup of coffee ans there next to the boiler was my handtruck with new wheels!Franks not one to take money for tasks he thinks are small but I want to give him something.
I tried to ask him where he got the wheels and he said he stole em off a wheelchair in the hospital.I wanted to tell him I knew he was full of --it but held my tongue!
I'll get him a gift card for Dunkin Donuts or something like that.
Today I went Over to Cafe de Point for a Blueberry Muffin. There was some interesting artwork on the wall and they were going to have the featured artist come tonight. The sky was looking grey but if it cleared up Id go check it out.
Sadly the weather was still iffy at 6pm so I just had dinner and 2 big glasses of wine.
Tonight I finished my new mix but i'll post it sometime this week because Part one might get some re-working.
Tinight I gave Nancy a bottle of Luna de Lune for mothers day.THAT put a smile on her face!

Giving Obama a thumbs up!

My Repblican Father and Uncleare likely to chastize me for this when we meet up in heaven but here it goes!
The handling of recent events by President Obama gets a thumbs up from me.Hes right NOT to show us pics of a dead OBL.
Showing such pics would only put fuel on the fire of hatred in the Taliban.
Lets also remember Bin Laden not only commited acts of terrorism in the US but in Africa,Spain,England and Afganistan.
Im sure folks in other parts of the world are quietly breathing a sigh of releif Bin laden has been eliminated but dare not so so publicaly for fears of more terrorists acts on their country.
Perhaps now we can try to extand the olive branch of peace to the muslim world and eliminate hatred.I hope a new era of peace and healing can begin.

Shelby Lynne Music review

Heres another artist who has been popping up on my radar musically. She has a bluesy soulish feel to her.It takes you back to another time.
Imagine what Aretha Franklin and Bonnie Raitt would sound like if they got together to record.Kachow.Shelby Lynne!

Breakfast and a car show

Today when my alarm went off I got up right away.I got dressed and Helene picked me up and we went to the Ocean Bay Diner and had pancakes, coffee and chatted.I made here new cards for her painting business and she likes them and wants more.I made her a set of 10 just to see if she aproved and she does!I love when I do things right.lol!
When I got home I checked my email and took a little nap and headed off to the car show at 1:30.
When I was going down Bay Ave I heard a heavy bass.It was a group of Zumba dancers.I wonder of that was planned and if they hooked into Ed Austins Sound System.
DJ Tommy Lynch was in his spot in Front of Ocean County Music. He did a shout out to me and i was Touched. He played Hey Little Cobra by the Ripcords for me too!Being It was a car show I thought that song was fitting!
Also There was the Gentleman with the Adam 12 car.I saw so many well maintained old cars.I dint look too closely at the dashboard though. Some of then have CD players and that just ruins the originality for me.Its like making Big Ben digital.
it was a nice day.Around 2:20 the sun went in and it was getting chilly.I had my beach jacket in my backpack and pulled it out and put it on.
All in all it was a nice weekend!
