CD update

here are 2 new CDs in my collection

A few years ago I discovered Soundway records. My discovery and education on world music continues! The tracks on the compilation is very Dance able! Being I love African Beats The Meridian Brothers and Bomba Estereo are 2 of my faves so far.

A Blast from the Past

When I was young my Dad had Herb Alpert playing alot. sometimes he would drive me to the bus stop on rainy days and he would have Herb Alpert playing in the cars 8 track player while smoking a pipe!
When I was in 8th grade he gave me his copy of Whipped Cream and other delights! At the time I was into the Bay City Rollers and KC and the Sunshine band so I guess that was his way of introducing me to real music and helping me expand my horizons musically! It worked. Thanks Dad!

Mid Febuary music additions

about 2 weeks ago I went to one of my fave online musite stores to check out if they had anything new and indeed they did.
there's lots of weird and obscure tunes here to tickle your funny bone.
Your can't here these songs on the radio today because most radio stations won't play them.
There are a few that were hits back in the day though and perhaps a few may make it on to future mixes.

Last week My Godmother Mary and cousin Molly came by for a chat and to give me some late birthday presents. this was one of them
As most of you know I'm into world music and have a nice collection. this is a nice addition!

great world music

Fpr a few years now I have been trying to listen to more world music. two of my main influences are fellow mix makers Robert Song and Al Telstar (not their real names ) but your internet handles.
Among my favorites are African, Irish and Indian music. Although mans of the words I don't know but the beats are infectious and danceable.
What I like too is that they use real instruments and the music is authentic and not computer generated.

to learn more about many of these cool sounds check out
www.worldmusic.net
www.soundwayrecords.com and
www.putumayo.com

and you too will be hooked!

more world music

In my travels Yesterday I stopped at a place called Sunshine Daydream which sells women's cloths ,accessories and Putumayo world music.
As most of you know especially those who I swap CD mixes with I enjoy world music.
The Putumayo world series is great. All original songs my the original artists.
I've been on a CD buying binge lately but I'll slow down in time to save up for the holidays.
Oh I know its a hair too early to be talking about the holidays but I start gathering music and compiling my Christmas mixes around late October.
This weekend I'll be making my fall mix called "Falling out of Summer 2014"
I have 3 DJ gigs in October 3 Saturdays in a row. I'm chuffed!

An Izzy Sandwich

for a while I had this idea for a mix that started and ended with the same artist.
The artistist I chose was inspired my friend and Coworker Beth and I were discussing the Hawaiian musician we just refer to as Izzy because his last name is a tongue twister.
I know I wanted to feature world music in the mix but have old faves as well.
so here it is folks
the Izzy Sandwich!

The Gold star Hits #1 & 2

Weatherwise this winter has not been east to get out and about on the bike or by foot. It has provided time for my creative skills with my mixes though.
I've been digging world music, jazz and hits of yesteryear as you can see.If you right click on the picture you can see the tracklisting better.
I've been trying to get my mix exchange by mail group going again with only a few definite yes's.
With the revival of interests in vinyl I'm hoping people will also get interested in making CD mixes again. Its a fun way to share what you've been listening to and a great way to turn others onto it too!

more world music

The other day on the way home from the dentist I stopped in at sunshine daydream on Bay Ave.
I was still numb so a trip to the green planet was out of the question.
For the past few years I have been getting educated in world music and incorporated it in my DJ gigs and get mostly positive responses! Its a better alternative to lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.
The Putumayo world music series is awesome and If I ever get establisted at a local cafĂ© or restarant Id like to do a world music night or do a good set of world music.

The Library is largely to credit for my discovery of world music. I incorporate it in my DJ gigs often and people love it!

The music buying relapse

My last music purchase was 2 weeks ago and I told myself no more music till after Christmas.
I went into Andi's and saw James Daltons new CD and bam!Relapse!
Hey its worth it though. He does a fantastic job and the harmonica and mandolin.truly a gifted dude!
After that I was cruising around  point Beach and got curious about what new Putumayo CDs Sunshine daydream had.OK if I was going to have a relapse it was going to go the distance.
I decided on Runba mumbo cha cha cha.I like them both.
Jpats got that's bluesy folky tip perfect for getting mellow and laid back and Rumba mambo cha cha cha makes you wanna do a little dirty Dancing woh mama!
Later that evening I did some online buying too!
