The Library:Its NOT just about books anymore

When I was young I remember going to the library and picking out a book with my closs and having it for a week.I thought thats all they had at the library.
In my mid 20s when I started making mixtapes someone told me you can loan out CDs and tapes from the library.today not only to they have music but they have videos, computer you can use for a half hour to an hour depending on how long you want. They even have a copier.10 cents a copy.not bad huh?
In My early mixmaking days someone would suggest I listen to a band and Id go to see if the library had it.its a practice I still use today.
I have discovered some cool world music and jazz through the library and the library plays a big part in broadening my musical horizons.
Check out your library to see if they have nice music and movies!

Ouch

With the start of the hot weather of course masquitos.June just started and already I have 3 bites on my right arm and one on my left wrist.dayam!Im sure the yellowjackets are not far behind.every year I have a few baby yellowjackets buzzing round my post on the beach.Ive only been stung once in my 10 years.
Speaking of insects Ive also noticed when someone drops food on the walkway by my stand it doesnt take long for ants to find it.Maybe 20 minutes.A potatoe chip is gone the next day its found. Its amazing what an army of ants can do!They break that thing up and bring it on back to the nest im guessing.think about that next time you wana eat at the beach.

afro sounds

The Ghana Special
I picked up this CD at the library of african music.I dont know any songs here but the beat is interesting.according to the Liner notes it was made in the 70s.Im listening to a song right now by a band called Vis a vis the song isobi agye me dofo very danceable.American funk was surely an influence. The beauty about music is that differant cultures inthuence each other and say hey thats mine but instead say wow we must have a good beat going if other cultures enjoy it.
Jimmy Cliff and Bob marley were my introduction to the tunes of africa.Herb Albert was my introduction to mexican music.I was turned onto world music at an early age but didnt realize other doors would open up later on in life as far as my musical influence go.Folks enjoy my world music spins when I DJ.
mynext CD Ill play is by David Bromberg. In high school I hated bluegrass because thats all my brother would play one one time but after gangster rap can on the scene I gave bluegrass another listen this time with an opened mind and liked it.

Ah..the wonderful cool sea air

Every Memorial day weekend I go for what I call my annual bike tour.I usually try for Saturday.
Today was a beauty but I wasnt sure if it would be because I could have sworn I heard rain at 8am so I fell back to sleep.
At 11am I woke up and seeing a blue sky I turned on the computer, got dressed and checked my email.Afterwords I had a cup of tea on the porch and figured if Im going to take my bikeride I better get to it and so I did.
Going over the Loveland town bridge I had a hankering for a donut or something so my first stop was Bay Point Market for a blueberry muffin and coffee.I was one of our lifeguards Larry Mcginn and we chatted.
I knew I was going to going to get Lollypops for Davy Jones day so While I thought of it I went to CVS.They have blowpops.just as good if not better I thought.Traffic was heavy but not crazy.
I went down Osbourne Ave to East Ave.There were a ton of Bikes at the Osbourne Street Beach. There were a few houses that were in the renevation stage.Cars line the streets from curb to curb I didnt see any empty spots. The Beach season has started and will be open officially in a few weeks. The Lyman Street Beach in Mantoloking didnt look so crowded so I stopped there. The cool Sea air was wonderful and the Ocean looked calm and clean It must have been low tide.I stood and looked the the ocean for about 10 minuted and Onward I went.
Crossing Main Ave was no problem.I figured Id have to wait and least 5 minutes on a nice day like this but I got lucky and was able to cross right away.
Barnagate lane was busy so I rode on the sidewalk if a big Van or SUV was coming. That road is norrow and gets wider at Strickland st.
I rode past my old house and the new owners are going a nice job at the landscaping.
My next stop was Applegate Hardware were I looked at Tarps.I figure its good to have a tard for my DJ gigs in case it rains.I saw one for $11.00 thats about 10 feet.Perfect for me.I'll put it on my list.
Next I went to The Beach House surf shop were Marty Showed me a promotional video that will be on you tube soon.
I was going to go to see my Friends King and Carla but the sky looked iffy so I headed home thus ending another succesful bike tour.
