whats been plating

Yesterday I did a random CD shelf pull and this was one of the CDs I pulled. I think I've only listed to it one and its now playing. Wow lots a cool jazz here. I'm really enjoying this!

recently I made a new mix making friend. His Name is Nick Haag. He sent me this mix a few days ago. Many of these I know but haven't heard in quite a while and there were a few tracks new to my ears. Dead Skunk still makes me chuckle. Nick ripped this from vinyl but doesn't use itunes. He has a CD burner you can hook up to the stereo. I didnt think that was possible. wow!

Thought on France and other stuff

Friday Morning I walked into the boiler room to get a cup of coffee and saw the news on the TV about Terrorists in France in two locations. It must have been as scary as 9//11 was for us.
By the end of the day all the terrorists were killed but 2 are still at large.
My heart goes out to them.
I don't know much about France but I know they are a pretty peaceful country. Do their police even carry guns?
My fellow mixmaker Sid from Northern Ireland invited me to this mixtrade group on yahoo and I joined. There are folks who still enjoy making CD mixes like I do. A few members emailed me welcoming me to the group. Like me they have the same mindset Trade mixes via mail and make new friends in the process.
I hope to send out a few packages tomorrow. Weather permitting!ugh
We are supposed to get snow early in the morning and as cold as it is the snow will make for bad driving conditions.
OK so back to the music, A happy subject. I'm thinking of a world music mix for 2015.
A artist friend of mine posted a beautiful picture of a fish she drew on facebook.I'm thinking of asking her if I can use it for a mix cover and give her the credit of course.
OK I'm told once you post a picture of facebook its public domain but I still believe in asking permission to use it. In my mind the artist ,photographer gets a thrill that someone likes what they did so much they want to use it and its buts a smile on their face, plus its keeps your conscious and integrity in the clear. Asking is better in this case.
I ordered MORE music from the library despite the fine I have. I'll pay the off the week!
More on the music later this week.
Stay warm
Peace Love and music!

more world music

In my travels Yesterday I stopped at a place called Sunshine Daydream which sells women's cloths ,accessories and Putumayo world music.
As most of you know especially those who I swap CD mixes with I enjoy world music.
The Putumayo world series is great. All original songs my the original artists.
I've been on a CD buying binge lately but I'll slow down in time to save up for the holidays.
Oh I know its a hair too early to be talking about the holidays but I start gathering music and compiling my Christmas mixes around late October.
This weekend I'll be making my fall mix called "Falling out of Summer 2014"
I have 3 DJ gigs in October 3 Saturdays in a row. I'm chuffed!
  details to follow soon
please check back soon!

remembering 2009 and myspace

Last night out of curiosity I looked to see if the website art of the mix was still around.it wasn't but I came across an article of someone remembering when she and her friends would make CD mixes for each other and how now one really does that anymore. it triggered the memories of 2009
in 2009 there was this social network called myspace. It was more popular then facebook for a spell!
I found this group called art of the mix. It was for folks like me who loved making  CD mixes and sharing them with others. Then I found IMP the international mixtape project..I joined both. I met many like minded folks who like me were obsessed with making CD mixes. we would exchange addresses and send each other mixes.
AOM was having problems with viruses and such so we all jumped ship and joined another site called Zenrunning order aka ZeRo. that lasted for 2 years and that admin shut it down because of similar issues that he couldn't keep up with due to work and family issues.
I stopped using myspace because my Hotmail account got hacked and figured my myspace account did too!
facebook got more user friendly so I signed up there. Luckily I was able to reconnect with some of my myspace friends who they themselves quit myspace and joined facebook.
I'm still in touch with a handful of ZeRo friends who still have a passion for music and making mixes.
one of them is Larry aka uncle Orca!We both the mixes through the mail idea even though postage has gone up! He occasionally even makes me mixtapes where he pretended to be a DJ and I told him he should get a job at a radio station. Hes that good!
most everyone else puts their mixes on mixcloud. Not Larry and me!
many has fallen of the CD mix radar because of what I call real life issues. I say if you have an hour to yourself a day heck have fun and make a mix.
With the revival of interest in LPs I'm hoping folks will once again be interested in making and trading CD mixes via mail.
Some folks come into your life for a season and others stick around for more and theres always a reason and a lesson to be learned. Be thankful for ALL your friends and cherish the time you have with them all!

The Gold star Hits #1 & 2

Weatherwise this winter has not been east to get out and about on the bike or by foot. It has provided time for my creative skills with my mixes though.
I've been digging world music, jazz and hits of yesteryear as you can see.If you right click on the picture you can see the tracklisting better.
I've been trying to get my mix exchange by mail group going again with only a few definite yes's.
With the revival of interests in vinyl I'm hoping people will also get interested in making CD mixes again. Its a fun way to share what you've been listening to and a great way to turn others onto it too!

Friemds and mixes

this year was a good year. I made a few new friends  through making mixes. though youtube and facebook I made friends and sent them mixes. I hope 2014 has as much success musically as this year did.
In 2014 I must pay more attention to my IMP page.
OK for those who don't know that's short for
the internationalmixtapeproject.com
a group of folks who still love making mixes in this day of mixcloud and so on.
I also an gaining quite in rep in the vinyl community page on facebook and on youtube. folks still enjoy CD mixes.
